Welcome Back!

Welcome back to students, families and staff! We hope everyone has had an enjoyable summer. We are excited that we will soon have students back in the school for another year of learning and connection. If you are new to Lamont Elementary, we are looking forward to getting to know you.

As you are aware, some COVID-19 protocols remain in place for this fall, and procedures will evolve throughout the school year. You can stay informed with this weekly newsletter which will be emailed to families each week as well as posted on our school website. Please continue to also check out the most current version of the EIPS Operations Guidelines. That plan will give you the general overview and protocols that every school in Elk Island will follow.

See you all soon!

ACTION

Back to School on September 1

Our first day of school is fast approaching. September 1 will be a full day of school. Our staff meeting and early dismissal day - usually the first Wednesday of each month - has been moved to September 8.

If your child is in Kindergarten or in our Play and Learn at School (PALS) Program, your child’s teacher has been in contact with you regarding your child’s staggered entry dates.

Supply List information can be found on our school website.

If your child will be riding the bus, visit the EIPS Transportation page for information.

Arrival/Departure at School

When students arrive at school, they must proceed directly to their designated line up area and wait until their entrance time. (see linked map) Classes will be dismissed in these same groups at the end of the day at different times (staggered exit). When leaving the school, students must proceed directly to the bus, their parent’s vehicle or off of school grounds. Late students must enter through the main doors and proceed to the office for a late slip, unaccompanied by an adult.

Lunch

Please send lunch items that students can open easily by themselves to minimize the need for close contact between students and staff. Please do not send any shared snacks for special days (ie: birthday snacks for the class). Our School Nutrition Program will be continuing this year. Healthy snacks will start on September 7 and lunches will start on September 14. Staff will be following Alberta Health Services regulations for food preparation and serving. More information about ordering lunches for September will be coming soon.

August 31th Parent Communication

On Tuesday, August 31, every parent will receive an email from their child’s classroom teacher. You will find out which class your child(ren) will be in, as well as confirm the entrance they will be using.

COVID-19 Guidelines for Fall 2021

EIPS School Board Trustees mandated mask wearing for all students, staff and visitors to K-6 School for this school year start-up. Please continue to also check out the most current version of the EIPS Operations Guidelines. That plan will give you the general overview and protocols that every school in Elk Island will follow.

Visitors, volunteers and contractors are permitted in the school or workplace as long as they have a specific reason for being there and follow the site-visitor protocol. As well, anyone entering an EIPS school or building must complete the COVID-19 Alberta Health Daily Checklist, sign the visitor log, sanitize hands and wear a mask. All visitors must enter and exit the school through the front doors.

OPPORTUNITY

Meet the Staff on September 9

We are hoping to be able to host families in our playground areas on Thursday, September 9 between 4 - 5:30pm so students, parents and caregivers can meet the teachers and school administration. Save the date and stay tuned for more information.

School Council & Friends of Lamont Elementary Society

All parents & caregivers are invited to attend the first meeting of the School Council & Friends of Lamont Elementary Society on Tuesday, September 14 at 6:30pm. We will be exploring a hybrid option where we will meet in person at the school and also have an online link for parents/caregivers to join us virtually. Come share your voice in supporting the students at Lamont Elementary and stay up to date on events at the school.
