FNMI | FIRST NATIONS, METIS and INUIT CULTURAL PROGRAM
Lamont Elementary is continuing with the FNMI (First Nations, Metis and Inuit Cultural program) this year. This program will be providing Lamont Elementary School students with another aspect of the FNMI culture - the 7 Character building teachings. The purpose of this program is to expose the students to the colorful, rich, and long heritage of the Aboriginal people in Alberta and Canada.
The FNMI coordinator for the 2010-2011 year at Lamont Elementary is once again Ms. Antonia Triska. Please contact her at the school for more information about this program.
FNMI Programming at Lamont Elementary
Lamont Elementary FNMI Programming for the 2010 - 2011 Academic Year
We are beginning our new year at Lamont with a different focus to the FNMI programming. A large part of the culture teaches its people about the teachings of good character that develop a person to the best of his/her abilities. This year we will be focusing our attention to these 7 teachings - Respect, Honesty, Love, Wisdom, Humility, Truth, and Courage. Through the months, students will be given an opportunity to learn about these character traits and how they are presented to the FNMI culture. We look forward to learning and expanding on our knowledge of this culture.
The first Teaching that we will be focusing on is the teaching of RESPECT which is represented by the BISON Students will learn about respect for the themselves, each other, animals, plants, and the land.
